Starring: Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, Brenton Thwaites, Katie Holmes, Taylor Swift

Directed by: Phillip Noyce

BLURB: The Giver centers on Jonas (Brenton Thwaites), a young man who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Yet as he begins to spend time with The Giver (Jeff Bridges), who is the sole keeper of all the community's memories, Jonas quickly begins to discover the dark and deadly truths of his community's secret past. With this new-found power of knowledge, he realizes that the stakes are higher than imagined a matter of life and death for himself and those he loves most. At extreme odds, Jonas knows that he must escape their world to protect them all a challenge that no one has ever succeeded at before. The Giver is based on Lois Lowry's beloved young adult novel of the same name, which was the winner of the 1994 Newbery Medal.

REVIEW: Wow where to begin on this one. First off I loved it!!! Really can't stress that enough. I’ve watched it twice now already in fact since I first gave it a try this week. The Giver is based on the multi-award winning novel of the same name by Lois Lowry that was first published in 1993. (I have never read it before but I definitely will be doing so after seeing the movie.)

It’s the story of a society that at first appears to be a sort of Utopia where all people get along and live in harmony and peace after what is referred to as the Ruin. Everyone embraces the doctrine of sameness from the way that they speak, to what they wear, and eat, and no one sees color (literally and figuratively). There is no war, starvation, hate, no divisiveness, no death and it all seems hunky dory at first glance. However when the surface is scratched this perfect little world is shown for the nightmare it really is.

The surface gets rippled first when Jonas a teenage boy embarks on his journey to manhood at his “graduation” where he and all teens of around 17-18 are assigned their careers that are chosen for them by the elders (who have watched them all their lives). Several other ceremonies marking other milestones within the community take place at the same time of graduation … (these are the ones shown in the movie I understand there were more in the book) - The babies who have reached age one are assigned to their family units. Children who have reached the age of nine are given a bicycle to mark their growing independence and elevated status within the community, and the elderly are released to move to “Elsewhere” (what is assumed to be a beautiful and restful place for them to live the rest of their lives). When Jonas receives his chosen profession it is vastly different than all the other graduates as he has been selected to become a Keeper of Memory. It is a very important job and title given only to a very select few who encompass 4 vital attributes – courage, integrity, intelligence, and “a capacity to see beyond”.

Jonas’s mentor who is to teach him everything he needs to know as "The Receiver of Memory" is called “The Giver” who is played brilliantly by Jeff Bridges. Jonas learns that he is to be very different than everyone else in the community. He will live by a different set of rules than everyone else must strictly adhere to. He is allowed to ask any questions, he is allowed to lie where no one else is, but he must also never discuss what he sees in his training to others. He will literally be “receiving” all the memories from the past so as to be able to guide and advise others in the present he is told by The Giver.

However Jonas learns very quickly in his training that there is so much that the community no longer has that they did in the past including…different climates (there is no snow or bad weather anymore due to climate control), there are no animals, people do not have feelings and emotions, (these are all being suppressed by daily injections that they are all told is to keep them healthy and that they must take), there is no music, and he learns for the first time about color and the lack of it in their world.

Through the images and knowledge that Jonas receives from the Giver he begins to realize that so much is missing from the world they have created within the community… things like fun, individuality, religion, different races and cultures, freedom, and most importantly real truth, affection, and love.

I won’t ruin the movie or the book for you by saying much more on what happens from there but I will say that what Jonas learns is that he is far from living in a perfect world. He is living in a world devoid of the most precious things of a person’s existence – freedom, truth, and love. Jonas then is set on a path to reveal the truth of what all is being stolen from every person as well as to save the lives of thousands!

I personally think that everyone should see this wonderful film and read the book as well... as they teach some extremely timely lessons that are much needed in our own country today! Two of it’s greatest lessons that it shows unequivocally is that of the importance of Freedom and Love and that Life is precious and should be valued at every stage of life. It tackles the very weighty evils of abortion and euthanasia with strong visuals and dialogue and doesn't flinch from the repercussions. It also shows just how dangerous it can be when people allow themselves to become complacent and subservient and allow their freedoms to be taken away both willingly and unwillingly as well, even when done in the name of “peace” and supposed “good of all”.

This film is a GIVER of it’s own by making you think about it’s very timely message and the situations that it depicts...and it is one that will leave you feeling triumphant at the end.

I was truly shocked that such a pro-freedom and pro-life movie would come out of Hollywood. Many progressive and liberal people were attached to this one and they readily drink from the fountain of big government, less freedom, and most especially they usually loath anything even close to a prolife message. So I was doubly shocked that Meryl Streep (whom I personally can’t stand and was the main reason that I waited so long to see the film) would be in such a movie! Especially since she has always been so outspokenly pro-choice. It made perfect sense to me that she was cast as the villain in this one – and she fit it perfectly might I add - I think because what she was playing seems to be very close to her own personal belief system.

The only real problem I had majorly with the movie was the end did seem a bit rushed. I wish that they would have elaborated more at the end on several relationships and other things but that does not detract overall from the films very powerful messages. I was more than happy to have my teenage son watch this one with me and we discussed it in length afterwards and yes he liked it as well!

I could go on and on but the main thing is please DO see this wonderful film. I loved it and I believe you will too! It’s one about extremely important issues that every American (and the world over for that matter) from pre-teens to adults should be questioning and thinking about especially in view of the way our country is - and is - heading these days!

No strong language, nudity, or sex. Some violence is depicted in hunting and war imagery but it is not explicit. Much worse is seen daily and nightly on regular TV. The only real reason this one is rated PG-13 is because many of the issues it deals with would go over many under the age of 11 or 12's heads. It is a remarkably clean yet hard hitting movie.

A couple of sweet and very chaste kisses between two of the main characters.

I LOVE this song! You want an uplifting song this one will have your heart soaring. I think it would make a great pro-life song! We all need to rise! And also rise back up above the darkness for those who have had abortions or worked in the abortion industry.

I have heard this same argument over and over and over again, how that in some situations it is "humane" to choose abortion than to let a child live. They could grow up poor and hungry, they could be abused, they could have a disease like MS or a thousand other things so it would be better to just abort them and save them the pain and suffering. I will NEVER for the life of me be able to wrap my head around that heartless totalitarian mentality. They usually want to start on this idea by be-crying the "rights" of a person to do what they want to with their own body, and if "their own" body were the only one affected, well I still don't agree with killing but that would be their ultimate decision. That particular situation is also called suicide not abortion. But abortion is the taking of someone else's life and it is the ultimate usurp of another person's rights because without the most basic and important right...the right to life no other rights matter or even come into play.

Case in point here is a conversation that I had with one pro-choicer very recently that commented on a very simple pro-life pic that I shared on my personal Facebook page. I have blacked out the name for privacy purposes. I don't know this man personally he was he said the friend of a friend and saw my post on his feed because of that. Here is the graphic followed by the comments...

No one can know how a person's life will end up. Even if they are the victim of some terribly hard times, and or abuse or whatever their situation may be...they could go on to live a very good and outstanding life afterwards in spite of all their hardships. In fact some of the very best people and leaders do just that! The bottom line is NO ONE has the right to play God and decide that it's all right to kill another person period!

What are your thoughts on this?

We all have our favorite actors and actresses, athletes, singers, etc. that we love and look up too.
But have you ever stopped to find out a little more about them other than about what they wore to the latest award show, or the last movie they were in? There are so many in the entertainment industry that have unfortunately bought into and promote the rabid support of abortion. But don't loose hope there are also many who are Pro-life! In fact some will probably surprise you! I would hasten to say that there are probably many more who simply don't say anything about their true beliefs on the matter, because they are scared to death that it might hurt their careers. But some have put it on record that they stand up for life and we should be proud of them and support them all the more for it!

I got to thinking a lot about this lately and I did a lot of digging and research and made up a list of Pro-life celebs who haven't been to afraid to say that they believe in the right to life! There are a few lists out there but almost all of them only list about 10 if that and they constantly just list the same celebs over and over again, when there are many more! (I have included a couple of stars that were outspokenly pro-life who have now passed on).

Let's share this far and wide and support these awesome celebs who believe in the sanctity of life! True equality and human rights will only ever begin with and believe in the right to life, because without the right to life no other rights even matter.

23 week old "fetus" in the womb,
yep it's a baby

When someone tries to tell you that a "fetus" is not a person, is not entitled to the right to life, mention these truths:

• The baby has his own blood type and his own unique DNA.

• The baby's heart starts beating at around three weeks post-conception.

• By sixteen weeks, the baby is grasping with his hands, kicking, and doing somersaults.

• By eighteen weeks, his vocal chords are functional. He can cry.

• By thirty-one weeks, his bones are fully developed.

The list goes on and on.

Fetuses are just babies that haven't been born yet stop the play on words. They do feel pain and it is murder to kill them in the womb. A person is still a person regardless of their size, age, level of development (toddlers and teenagers are still growing too should it be legal to kill them?), or their location.

Earlier this week I read an article from thegospelcoalition.org stating that China has admitted to aborting over 336 million unborn children, and many of them forcibly. This number is almost unimaginable in its enormity. Just to put it in perspective the number is way over the population of the entire United States that is now just an estimated 315 million. In fact it is closer to or greater than the populations of the U.S. and Australia combined (Australia's current estimated population is about 23 million). China has literally aborted over the population of an entire country (or more) by itself.

The article puts it into further perspective stating...

"The 336 million deaths in China are:
• More than the entire population of the world at the time of the Crusades (c. 1100 AD).
• Equal to the entire combined populations of the United States and Australia.
• More deaths than were caused by (in millions): the Bubonic Plague in Europe (100), the Great Chinese Famine (45), the 1918 Influenza Pandemic (40), the HIV/AIDS pandemic (25), the Holocaust (13), the Soviet famine of 1932-1933 (8), the Russian famine of 1921 (3), and the American Civil War (.8).
• More than all the people killed in the 10 ten deadliest wars in human history (Based onhighest estimates (in millions): World War II (72), World War I (65), Mongol Conquest (60), An Lushan Rebellion (36), Taiping Rebellion (30), Qing Dynasty conquest of the Ming Dynasty (25), Conquests of Timur (20), Dungan Revolt (12), Russian Civil War (9), Second Congo War (5.4))
• More than all the children that will be born in the world over the next ten years."
This is just unbelievably sickening. We all need to pray for an end to abortion not only here in the U.S. but throughout the world, and most especially in China where the government is sanctioning this at an unbelievable rate. As well as doing it forcibly to women against their wills even very late in pregnancies. I would think that, that issue (the forcible ones and even the late term abortions) would be ones that even most pro-choice supporters would even agree is wrong.
Last year there was the heartbreaking story of Feng Jianmei who was beaten, taken, and they forcibly aborted her 7 month old baby. Photos of the woman lying on a bed with her aborted baby laying beside her were leaked and went viral on the internet causing a public outcry and protests worldwide.
Unfortunately it seems that history is once again repeating itself because just this week another story from China very similar to Jianmei's occured when another 7 month old child was forcibly aborted. The father of the baby reported the case and released a photo of his aborted 7 month old son that has also gone viral. You can read the heartbreaking story here...http://www.lifesitenews.com/news/7-month-old-baby-forcibly-aborted-on-march-22-in-china-graphic-photo-circul

(*The image above is the blurred image of that aborted 7 month old child that I superimposed over the flag*)
The heinous disregard for human life that is taking place in China is nothing short of horrific. Words truly fail me to say just how wrong and evil their one child, forced abortion policy is. We need to pray for China and we need to also pray that our own country and the other countries of the world that they will not ever go down that same road that China has willing traveled.

THIS is what "choice" really looks like...

I saw this photo on Facebook today it was shared on one of my friends pages. The caption that accompanied the photo reads...

"Aborted babies found in garbage bags in dumpster behind abortion mill in Michigan...This is what you call' Partial Birth abortion" where the child was about to be born and then you have some babies aborted before their time to be born... In latin Fetus means "Little one""

I normally don't post photos like this because personally I can't stand to look at them myself. It breaks my heart and I literally feel sick when seeing them. However I am beginning to think like many others that there are many people out there that never question what abortion and pro-choice really are until they are faced with the unflinching truth of what it looks like. And I hate to say this but this is one of the MILD photos of what abortion does and is. At least in this one you don't see the little babies literally ripped into pieces as many of them are through what people call a safe and legal "choice".

Tell me how ripping a baby into pieces is right in any circumstance and for any reason! Tell me how purposely causing a baby to be born before it can live outside the womb and tossing it's body in a dumpster like it was nothing more than garbage is right or just in any way!

When someone posts a picture like this it is not done to hurt anyone or to offend them per say. It is done to educate and help people see the truth. It's done out of love to help open people's eyes to the evil that is going on in our country every single day. It is done so that things like this will stop! And while someone might inadvertently see it and it might upset them, and some will undoubtedly get offended when they do see them these kinds of pictures are necessary and powerful. It is graphic photos just like this that have changed many people's hearts and minds about abortion. Because they were never actually faced with what it abortion truly is and what it does before seeing images just like this one and worse those of the pieces that are left behind of the babies after abortions.

Abortion is nothing more than a word to many people. This picture should show you that it is much more than that, and it is not just a political issue as many want to argue. This is a civil rights issue, it is a religious issue, it is a moral issue, and it is truly a human life or death issue.

Don't worry I won't be posting many of these. I honestly don't know if I will ever be able to post one again after this. And I sure can't post some of the ones that I have come across inadvertently myself on other pro-life pages, because I think I would literally throw up even trying. Some of the ones I have seen haunt me often. Anyone with even half of a heart at all doesn't want to see these things, but they need to be seen so that these atrocities will stop! It was graphic photos of aborted babies that a young Lila Rose of Live Action saw when she was a young girl and it helped her to become one of the strongest pro-life advocates in our country today because she was so moved and horrified by what she saw. People need the blinders ripped off of their eyes and for abortion to stop being hidden to where they have to address this issue. Stop being silent, stop turning away from it, stop closing your eyes and pretending that it isn't happening or that it has nothing to do with you because it does. This issue affects every single one of us on this earth today because it has already taken the lives of over 55 million of our brothers and sisters, friends, and neighbors. God only knows who was meant to be in each and everyone one of our lives that is missing today because of abortion.

I hope this does make people angry and I hope it does upset people and make them sick and make them mad because it SHOULD! Abortion is KILLING over 3,500 babies in America every single day. They aren't just numbers on a piece of paper or on a page on the internet or some statistic that someone made up they are human beings. They are innocent children that were meant to be on this earth for a reason and their lives are being ended purposely and discarded like they were nothing by the thousands every single day. Let's not forget that it is also leaving over 3,500 women who are the mother's of those children scarred for life as well both physically and mentally. One killed one left to suffer and haunted for life... untold thousands of men and women's lives unequivocally changed forever.

So you see while photos like this are ugly and hard to look at there are many people in today's world who do need to see pictures just like this to show them exactly what abortion truly is. I felt very strongly for some reason as soon as I saw this one today on a friend's page that I needed to share it. God himself only knows why but I pray that it will help someone to open their eyes and see the truth of what abortion really is and what it is doing. And God willing it will change their hearts and minds and I pray save lives in the future because of it.

May God have mercy on the U.S. and help turn it from being a country that embraces death to one that once again values and embraces life!

Many believe that to be a feminist in today's world you have to be pro-choice. But that is not true at all in fact many don't know that the women who actually started the feminist movement and worked the hardest for women's rights, and in securing the right for women to vote were pro-life! Indeed I believe that to be a true feminist you have to be pro-life! It is vital to the very core of what a woman and feminist is suppose to be!

I wanted to share this great speech The Feminist Case Against Abortion by Serrin Foster of Feminists for Life. If you have never heard this one before and you consider yourself a feminist, or especially if you are a feminist and are pro-choice you need to watch this one!

How will you honor those who are lost to abortion tomorrow on the 40th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton?

The thought occurred to me a week or two ago when I was trying to think of some way to honor all the children who have been lost to abortion, and all the women who have been hurt by abortion as well. I thought that white roses would be a beautiful way to pay tribute to them.

Why a white rose you ask? Everyone knows when people die one of the first things that many people think to do is to give or send flowers. And the more I thought on it I thought that a white rose would be very fitting and symbolic as well on several different levels. A rose is itself is very fragile much like life and if you "choose" to you can crush it and kill, but if you do you loose so much beauty. And if you take care of it and nurture it and let it grow it blossoms and brings forth so much beauty and fragrance to fill your life and the lives of others. The color white because white represents the purity, light, and innocence of every precious life. And lastly but certainly not least, in fact it is the most important is that white is a holy color that represents God and the fact that all men and women are made in the very image of God, who is the giver of all life.

I personally won't be able to make it to one of the many events and memorials tomorrow marking the anniversary of these horrible laws, but I wanted to share with you all two graphics that I made last week in honor of the over 55 million children lost to abortion. So that if you are like me and can't make it to one of memorials tomorrow you can post these on your social media pages, blogs, etc. in honor of all the beautiful and precious lives lost to us from abortion since 1973 and show that we have not forgotten them, that we will always remember their lives, and that they did matter.

And this one is one that you can use as a profile image or avatar.

Please feel free to download these images and share them on your own pages, social media sites, blogs, etc. Let's all fight harder than ever to make this anniversary of Roe and Doe the last!

Also there is an online event that will be taking place tomorrow started by Jill Stanek called
"Ask Them What They Mean By “Choice” Day"  that all pro-lifers can take part in! Read more about it here...http://www.jillstanek.com/2013/01/tomorrow-ask-them-what-they-mean-by-choice-day/
Let's all work together and pray to end abortion!

I made these graphics last week for the upcoming 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton. I intend to make a few more in the next week God willing. Please feel free to download these and share them on all your social networking sites, websites, blogs etc. and share them with all your family and friends.

No other court decisions have so greatly impacted our country as Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton. They have taken the lives of more Americans than all of the wars that have been fought by the U.S. since it's founding combined. It's truly staggering when you actually think about the sheer numbers of people who's lives have been snuffed out before they ever had a chance to take their first breath outside the womb. Since 1973 over 55 million children have been aborted in the U.S. More than 3,700 are killed everyday that is more than were killed on 9/11. It's like having a disaster worse than 9/11 happening every single day. I ask you why is there not a cry so loud that it could be heard around the world over so many needless killings of our fellow American's?

And we wonder why our country is in so much trouble?

"Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."  Mark 12:31

Is killing our fellow Americans our brothers and sisters love???

Please remember to pray for the young women who are struggling with unplanned and difficult pregnancies, pray for an end to abortion, take part in sidewalk counseling in front of the abortion mills, share some pro-life graphics on Facebook or twitter or one of the other social sites you belong too. Share some pro-life stories and videos with others, post links to crisis pregnancy centers. And most of all don't be SILENT talk about and teach others the truth about abortion. Everyone can do something to help. If you are being silent in fear of hurting anothers feelings or being politically correct you (however unintentionally) are part of the problem that has allowed this travesty to continue for these almost 40 years. Please stop and think and ask yourself truly what is more important? Hurting a few people's feelings which if you ever take a stand for anything you are going to do it is inevitable...or saving LIVES??? That includes the lives of the women who are hurting and being damaged for life everyday by abortion. Apathy is destroying our nation. Will you take a stand for life and help to put an end to abortion for the good of all American women, children and men!

Let's all work together and harder than ever to END this tragedy once and for all. 40 years is way far to long, it's time to Abort ROE and DOE!

(These graphics have also been added to the graphics page and the new ones will be added as soon as I finish them. So please check back on the graphics page often for more to share! It's an easy way to get the word out on abortion and about standing up for LIFE!)

There are a few changes taking place here at Voice for Hope!

Some of you might have noticed I have made a slight change to the name of the website/blog instead of Voice for Hope it will now be A Voice for Hope.

I did this for two reasons...

The main reason is I am very happy to announce that A Voice for Hope now has it's own premium domain name at http://www.avoiceforhope.com/

Because the name Voice for Hope was already taken on both the .com options and on Facebook as well I decided to go ahead and make the small change to the name and now everything will be more nice and uniform. With the addition of the .com name I think it will be much easier for people to remember and will allow me to add more website and search engine options as well. I pray also that this will bring more visitors and followers for the page! :)

The old links with the blogger address still work just fine but they will now automatically redirect to the new URL address. If you do follow the blog itself and not just the Facebook page please update your bookmarks. :)

In closing I would like to ask you all if you would to please post about A Voice for Hope on your own Facebook and Twitter pages, share the link with your family and friends and help AVFH to continue to grow.

Please post the actual page address and the link to the Facebook page as well if you don't mind.

http://www.avoiceforhope.com/

God bless you all! I would truly appreciate it! Let's all work together to end abortion and be A VOICE FOR HOPE!

It's time for everyone to start treating people like they would want to be treated themselves. Post abortive women should NOT be cursed at and treated with disrespect. For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23 We are all sinners and do you really think you are going to help ANYONE or change anyone's mind about abortion if you come at them with hate and cursing and calling them names? Treat EVERYONE with respect and love them like JESUS told us too!

Now by doing this that doesn't mean that you agree with their former actions at all! Or that we don't tell them the truth but you can tell them the truth and teach them while treating with respect like a human being. They will listen to what you are saying MUCH more that way than they will if you treat them with indignation and hate. We want to help these women understand that LIFE is the right choice and help them to see that there are MANY crisis pregnancy centers and other organizations out there that are ready and more than willing to help them and their babies! But you will never get the chance to help them if you alienate the mothers!

I have actually even heard (and this makes me sick to think that a grown person who calls themselves pro-life and sometimes even try to call themselves Christians) that some people who stand outside of abortion centers throw raw meat at the women who are going in and call them vile names and curse them. THAT is not the way to change their minds!!! Would you listen to someone that treated you like this? No you wouldn't. That is sick and childish and it won't help them listen to anything that the Pro-life cause has to say with those kinds of actions. And no true Christian would ever treat anyone this way either! To reach these people we need to treat them as we would want to be treated ourselves with respect and like a person. Because if you curse and throw things and take that kind of approach you are in fact helping the Pro-choice side infinitely more than the Pro-life one! You are doing more harm to the Pro-life cause than good, and you could be helping to loose even more lives by this type of ignorant behavior.

Many of the women who are considering abortion are very young many of them are being pressured by others many times those closest to them to have an abortion. Many have been told by them all around them that abortion is the way to go and that they have no other choice if they want to have a normal life. They are scared, they feel alone, and many have no idea that there are countless programs and people out there more than willing to help them and their babies and that will help them both so that both of them can have a chance at a better and happy life! But we are never going to reach these people who need us most if we or others treat them the way that I have mentioned above that some people who profess to be Pro-life are treating them. This will only push them further into the grips of abortion and Planned Parenthood and their lies that abortion is the quick, safe, and easy way out. It's NOT and we need to reach these women and help them not condemn them and push them further toward an abortion that will kill their innocent child and wound them for life.

Let's love them both the mother's and the babies and fight to save both of their lives because both of them are our brothers and sisters that is what being truly Pro-life is all about! It's about love, not hate there is already plenty of that on the other side and that is what we are trying to END. Let's love our neighbors as ourselves as Jesus taught us to do and help teach others that abortion is NEVER the right decision. That there is help and hope out there and fight to end abortion for the mother's and children's sakes. EVERYONE deserves better than abortion!
